      YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER

      The yelllow-rumped warbler
      appears suddenly on the highest
      branch of an unadorned fuchsia
then darts to other perches inspecting
      each rapidly but thoroughly
Some just sticks in the ground

      Sensing something tasty
      it flips over up-side-down
      probing then jabbing his beak
into a pair of curling leaves
      finally digging out & devouring
      a flavorful morsel from below

All the time flicking his tail
      giving my predatory human eye
a flash of yellow to be caught by
      so I'm always looking
where the bird used to be
      not where it is now
