Don't Let It Be Me
Don’t Let It Be Me
I am impatient for the rain.
It falls too slowly.
I want to shake the sky
to see what can fall into an open heart.
A wild man has broken loose from my dry jail
and is demanding a drink that only love has.
We are a Love thing
and we can do this thing.
Its not so very hard to be what we are.
Everything is passing away in my river.
The banks of this world are far too narrow
and something must give.
I want to scoop stars up
and throw them at God
Lets play a game of love
that only one of us will survive,
and don’t let it be me.
I have grown up in this world
with a pack of fools on my back.
One by one I have left them by the roadside
and followed only love.
I see my Beloved now,
a love thing in my own eyes.
We touch each other
like the sun touches the sky
and we can both see from there.
