      Evening Song 25

I have felt the heat of my blood:
I have tasted life in the throat today.

Now twilight graces every harm done
in the den of the wolf and the lamb.

Evening is a time of surrender and victory,
a retreat from a battle that only peace can win.
      Those who know this
write poems to others as evening prayers.

They enter an original silence that blesses the dawn.
They open the darkness as a love letter
and read by their own light.

      love

      eric
