      When She Stirs

      There is movement
      when She stirs.
A haunch then a hip of sound.
A reverberation you can only hear
in the long canals of your bones.

      Be quiet now.
Be like a mouse in a sky full of hawks.
      Be attentive
and as low to the ground
      as your soul can get.

      The Goddess of Living Poetry
      is awakening.
She will come with a word
      a line, and occasionally
      a complete poem
(except no poem is ever complete
      only its images are whole).

When you die to your own words
She will come with a whole
      new life for you.

      Like an owl of light
She will carry your heart in Her beak

      and where your blood
      stains the sky red
      something will struggle to speak
      and there, words
      will begin.
