Subject: [IBRG] Interview with Mr. Gruzas, head of State Border group,
      LT MFA

Today I have been spoken to the head of International Treaties Division Mr.
Ridas Petkus and Ambassador at Large Mr. Edvardas Gružas, both at Lithuanian
      MFA.

The actual execution of the ratifications of the Lithuanian-Russian border
is going to take part within 1 week to 1 month. It is only a question about
when the parties will have time for that, according to both gentlemen.

According to Mr. Gruzas a joint commission will be created hopefully already
in September and they will then start to solve the question about the joint
border. He expressed a hope that this work will be much more easy because a
great part is waterways, and only a small area land border. The demarcation
headed by this joint commission will only begin its work next year. One
central job will be to compensate for the Vistytis farms - so far they do
not have any area in mind, and it could be solved in any way. They do not
have any prejudice in this context. Before the demarcation will be finished
the families will need to live under the same regime as until now. In short,
      nothing will change this year.

Mr. Gruzas also confirmed that the location of the LTPLRU tp is correct, but
that that it is considered to make a more modern monument maybe with
      trilanguaged text.

Yes, the Baltic map producers have already changed the borderlines, but too early. The Soviet republic borders are still valid as Russian Lithuanian

Yes, the Baltic map producers have already changed the borderlines, but too
early. The Soviet republic borders are still valid as Russian Lithuanian
administration lines. You find more about this on my Vistytis pages.
