Lisa's Quilt
On February 18, 2005, Lisa Speltie, a student of Guajome Park Academy, passed away.

Lisa received a heart at the age of 3 weeks. From that point on, she spent a lot of her life at Children's Hopsital, San Diego. Outside of school, Lisa had a very active life. She had many friends she had met through the Make A Wish Foundation.

When I got home from that service, I wanted to do something. Inspired by friends who had Prayer Quilt Circles, I approached my daughters about what to do. We decided to make Lisa's father, Jeff a quilt. From there, Guajome Gifters was born.

I contacted Quilts for kids and asked to become a chpater. On March 14, 2005, We became Quilts for Kids, Vista Chapter, the 48th Chapter of Quilts for Kids.

While promoting Quilts for Kids at Guajome's Stakeholder's Day, I entered a drawing for a quilt. I ended up winning that quilt. All this has come full circle because of that quilt. It was made using the colors that were the favorite of Lisa Speltie. It was made by a woman after Lisa passed away, to remember her by. Lisa's quilt tells the story of our group, and why it is important to help.

We all have had a Lisa in our lives. This is a chance to give back, do something nice. We can never make ammenda to not being nice to people when they are gone, but we can pass being nice forward, to those we don't know know. Wouldn't that be a lovely infection?

We've chosen to donate our quilts to Children's Hospital. Just in case, there are other Lisa's sitting in a hospital bed, who doesn't have a lot of friends that know about the pain, the loneliness. Join us to help make these children and other happier. Give them something without expecting anything back.
