Victoria Smurfit was born in Dublin in 1974, the daughter of Irish paper and packaging tycoon Dermot Smurfit (one of the richest men in Ireland). She trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School where she appeared in productions of 'Mansfield Park', 'King Lear' and 'Love’s Labours Lost'. Since then her work has included 'Jungle Book' for the RSC and 'Stages and Hens' at the Edinburgh Festival. 'Ivanhoe' was Victoria’s first major television appearance where she played the role of Lady Rowena. She is currently well-known as Orla in the television drama Ballykissangel. Prior to filming 'The Beach' she worked on the British black comedy 'The Wedding Tackle', alongside Leslie Grantham and Tony Slattery. Victoria married David Baxter on 24th July, 2000.
