    Hi Riders

Don’t forget that the deadline for submitting registration forms for the Blandy ride is June 14th.

I have some good news. Cathette has arranged for overnight camping at the Clarke County Fairgrounds, which is about 11 miles from the ride site. A ride description/registration form and a camping registration form are attached.

Ride the trails of the Blandy Experimental Farm, a 700-acre University of Virginia environmental science research center located in the northern corner of the historic Shenandoah Valley. Blandy is home to the State Arboretum of Virginia, which features 6500 trees and shrubs including the most extensive collection of boxwood varieties in North America and expansive stands of beeches, magnolias, and maples. Rolling meadowland, mountain vistas, towering firs and Lake Georgette, which hosts a variety of wetland plants and animals, are all part of Blandy.

Blandy was established in 1927, and the Arboretum was named for Blandy’s first director, Dr. Orland E. White. It was designated as the State Arboretum of Virginia by the General Assembly in 1986.

<http://www.historiclongbranch.com/> LONG BRANCH HISTORIC HOUSE AND FARM

Since the early 18th century, the rolling hills that include the LONG BRANCH estate have been owned by a series of famous men-Lord Culpeper, Lord Fairfax, and Robert “King” Carter. In 1788, Robert Carter Burwell inherited the land lying along the stream know as LONG BRANCH. Some twenty years later he began the construction of the historic house. In 1842, Major Hugh Mortimer Nelson purchased LONG BRANCH and finished the interior. By the late 20th century, LONG BRANCH had declined in condition. In 1986, Harry Z. Isaacs purchased the estate at public auction and spent a sizable fortune revitalizing the historic house.

    MONTANA HALL

Montana Hall is also located in the rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley. It is owned by Justin and Meridith Mackay-Smith. This private farm will be opened up for your riding pleasure.

    DIRECTIONS:

Parking will be at the Arboretum which is located on US 50 in the Shenandoah Valley about nine miles east of I81 at Winchester and 60 miles west of Washington, DC.
