On January 16, 2001 David G. Brickley, Director of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation made a presentation to the Natural Resources Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. In regards to the impact of budget cuts facing his agency’s division of state parks his report states, "While State Parks will not be closed, the hours, facilities, services and programs will be affected. In addition, state-wide advertising, extended season and operational support, reservation center operations, environmental education programs, visitors’ and discovery centers, swimming, boating and other activities will be affected."
