International cyclo-cross comes to Washington DC !

The Fitness Concepts Capital ‘Cross Classic, an internationally sanctioned cyclo-cross race, will take over Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Virginia on Sunday, December 5th. Cyclo-cross racing has risen to a new level in the mid-Atlantic with record breaking attendance levels at the ‘Verge Mid-Atlantic Cyclo-cross Championship Series’, and what could be a better mighty MAC finale and travel destination than in our nation’s capital!  This will be the last east coast UCI event before the racing blows out the roof at the US National Cyclo-cross Championship in Oregon the following weekend.

Please welcome the first annual "Fitness Concepts Capital ‘Cross Classic" to the national cyclo-cross community of racing. This is a Category 2 UCI event and will be held under UCI regulations, UCI scale of penalties will apply. The UCI Elite Men, UCI U23, UCI Elite Women, and UCI Women 35+ must have a valid UCI license; a valid USCF or NORBA license is needed for all other races. Non-licensed riders must purchase a one-day license (additional $5 fee) during registration.

We are pleased to announce that Fitness Concepts will be the title sponsor for the race this year. Fitness Concepts is the largest and most successful coaching company in the region, with a staff of 13 coaches and over 150 clients, which includes three of the top road teams in the area. Ken Mierke, Fitness Concepts’ head coach, is Director of Training for Joe Friel's Ultrafit and a prominent coach and frequent contributor on the TrainingBible.com message board. Additional information about Fitness Concepts can be found on their web site: www.Fitness-Concepts.com

Lake Fairfax Park (home of the Water Mine water park) in Reston, VA has been a favorite destination for ‘cross races the previous 6 years as its natural bowl-like setting is perfect for ‘cross racing. With terrain and elevation changes perfectly suited for the shorter, more intense style of cyclo-cross racing, this park offers it all. A well-balanced, technical course promises to be a good battle among for all classes. The park authority has taken a special interest in offering the best possible racing experience and making sure that it will be a very visual, spectator-friendly community event.

The Fitness Concepts Capital ‘Cross Classic would like to thank our event sponsors: Fitness Concepts, City Bikes, Trails End Cycling Company, Plum Grove Cyclery, Bicycle Outfitters, Bike Lane, Verge, Cycle-smart, Honey Stinger, and BikeReg.com online registration.
