Minister's book seeks blessings for gays
      http://www.post-gazette.com:80/regionstate/19990228minister6.asp
By Ann Rodgers-Melnick, Post-Gazette Staff Writer

      Excerpt
A United Methodist minister from Pittsburgh has written a book urging
      churches to bless gay relationships.

The book, "More than Welcome," places the Rev. Maurine Waun, associate
pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh in Shadyside,
openly at odds with the doctrine of her denomination, which holds that
sexual activity is for heterosexual marriage only.

Willie Brown To Bless Same-Sex Marriages Huge ceremony set for S.F. City

      EXCERPT
Brown is inviting gay and lesbian couples from across California to
come to San Francisco City Hall on the evening of Friday, March 26. Any
couple that has ever registered as domestic partners under the city's
1991 law sanctioning such relationships is also invited.

Some 4,000 gay and straight couples have registered under the law so
      far.

      Anti-gay letter threatens church
By TIM PEGLER Religious affairs correspondent
      3mar99

      EXCERPT
SEXUALITY is again threatening to rend the Anglican Church, with the
Archbishop of Sydney, Harry Goodhew, warning the church's US wing
that any softening of attitudes on homosexuality will not be
      tolerated.

Archbishop Goodhew's stern open letter to the head of the Episcopal
Church in the US advises that any move towards blessing same-sex
relationships or ordaining practising homosexuals would be a "grievous
      wrong".
