Md. school district pulls bullying curriculum with ‘ex-gay’ references

Prince George’s County Public Schools earlier this week stopped using an anti-bullying curriculum that included references to “ex-gay” organizations.
A 21-minute video the Washington Blade obtained from Christopher Doyle, director of the International Healing Foundation who developed the Acception curriculum, features four students who are assigned a project on anti-gay bullying.
The video contains a number of short clips that include a group of students — one who receives the aforementioned assignment from his teacher — who shout an anti-gay slur at a classmate before pushing him into a locker. Another features a group of students who use a cell phone to record a teenaged boy changing inside a restroom stall before gym class.

In an ironic twist of events, the 49ers -- everyone’s favorite to win the Superbowl -- were defeated at the claws of the Ravens. This defeat comes at the heels of an already trying season for the 49ers resulting from cornerback Chris Culliver’s anti-gay rant on Artie Lange’s radio show.
"I don’t do the gay guys, man. I don’t do that," he said. "No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do. Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah...can’t be... in the locker room man. Nah."

INDIANAPOLIS -- Some gay rights groups are trying to bolster the confidence of gay teens after an Indiana teacher said she believes gays have no purpose in life.
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays state coordinator Annette Gross said Saturday the "You Have a Purpose" Facebook page will collect videos submitted to encourage gay youth. She compared the project to syndicated columnist Dan Savage’s "It Gets Better" project aimed at deterring bullied gays from suicide.
MLB OKs Sexual Orientation Harassment Policy

Major League Baseball says it will bolster its policies against harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation, according to a new agreement provided to The Associated Press on Monday.
The league is scheduled to announce its new policy during its All-Star game festivities on Tuesday with the players’ union and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who helped draft the agreement.

A high school student, who was the victim of anti-gay bullying, was taken off life support and died Tuesday after he attempted to take his own life last weekend, the Latin Post reports.
Carlos Vigil, 17, of Valencia County, N.M., wrote a suicide note on Twitter Saturday afternoon, confessing the he was being bullied.

A 14-year-old Italian teen committed suicide due to anti-gay bullying he endured, Pink News reports.
The boy, who resided in Rome, took his life last Friday at 2 a.m. by throwing himself from a balcony after being subjected to anti-gay bullying online and at school. He left behind two messages apologizing to his family. One was on a USB drive, and the other was handwritten.
