The leading national organization for suicide prevention services for LGBT and questioning teens, The Trevor Project, is promoting their Talk To Me campaign to coincide with the National Suicide Prevention Month of September. Targeting the wider public to raise awareness of suicide prevention and life saving strategies, Talk To Me is inspired by research released by the Department of Health and Human Services earlier this month that indicates promotion of help-seeking has a significant impact on this serious issue.

Bryan Fischer Sees Gay Agenda in Lunch Mixer

      Post by Candace Chellew-Hodge

“We tell the truth about homosexual behavior.”

That’s what Bryan Fischer, radio talk show host and American Family Association employee, says to explain his opposition to Mix It Up at Lunch Day sponsored by The Southern Poverty Law Center.

Set for October 30, Mix it Up encourages kids to engage in conversation over lunch with someone who’s not in their usual clique of friends. It encourages them to break out of their usual friendships and talk with different kids. Nerds talking to jocks, cheerleaders talking to brainiacs, black kids talking to white kids, American kids talking to kids from other cultures and countries, Muslims talking to Christians and, gasp, straight kids talking to the gay kids. The hope of the SPLC is that such bridging of the usual lunchroom social gaps will result in fewer incidents of bullying—because once you get to know someone, it’s harder to be mean to them.

Christian Group: School Lunch With a Stranger Promotes ’Gay Agenda’

      Thursday Oct 18, 2012

A Christian group is slamming an anti-bullying campaign that urges public-school students across the country to make new friends by sitting with kids with whom they normally wouldn’t associate during lunch period.

The organization’s leaders claim to see a sinister purpose behind such efforts to promote empathy. They say the effort is detrimental; more specifically, part of the ongoing effort by liberals to push the so-called "gay agenda," New York Daily News reports.

I was on my way to bed when I walked by the desk to take one last look at the computer screen—and now, tonight, I can’t sleep. And it’s not just the sleep-thwarting glow of the screen. Tonight, my customary frivolous scroll through my Facebook feed turned up a story I hadn’t expected to see.

Josh Pacheco, age 17, from Fenton, Michigan, killed himself.

I don’t know Josh or his family. And I’ve never even been to Michigan.

Md. school district pulls bullying curriculum with ‘ex-gay’ references

              February 8, 2013

By Michael K. Lavers on February 8, 2013

Prince George’s County Public Schools earlier this week stopped using an anti-bullying curriculum that included references to “ex-gay” organizations.

A 21-minute video the Washington Blade obtained from Christopher Doyle, director of the International Healing Foundation who developed the Acception curriculum, features four students who are assigned a project on anti-gay bullying.

The video contains a number of short clips that include a group of students — one who receives the aforementioned assignment from his teacher — who shout an anti-gay slur at a classmate before pushing him into a locker. Another features a group of students who use a cell phone to record a teenaged boy changing inside a restroom stall before gym class.

In an ironic twist of events, the 49ers -- everyone’s favorite to win the Superbowl -- were defeated at the claws of the Ravens. This defeat comes at the heels of an already trying season for the 49ers resulting from cornerback Chris Culliver’s anti-gay rant on Artie Lange’s radio show.

"I don’t do the gay guys, man. I don’t do that," he said. "No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do. Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah...can’t be... in the locker room man. Nah."

INDIANAPOLIS -- Some gay rights groups are trying to bolster the confidence of gay teens after an Indiana teacher said she believes gays have no purpose in life.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays state coordinator Annette Gross said Saturday the "You Have a Purpose" Facebook page will collect videos submitted to encourage gay youth. She compared the project to syndicated columnist Dan Savage’s "It Gets Better" project aimed at deterring bullied gays from suicide.
