LINCOLN, Neb. | Another same-sex union involving a United Methodist
pastor in Nebraska is raising a ruckus.

Pledges are down and volunteers are more scarce at Christ United
Methodist Church here after a same-sex union involving the church's
pastor and his wife generated wide coverage in the local newspaper
      and attracted sign-carrying anti-gay protestors.

About 200 congregation members met July 21 to discuss the role that
their minister, the Rev. Jay Vetter, played in ceremonies two months
ago revolving around the union between Jay Yost and Wade Leak at a
      local Episcopal church.

Mr. Vetter performed a "lamentation service" before the actual
commitment ceremony conducted by his wife, Maureen, who is not an
ordained United Methodist pastor. The Vetters have known Mr. Yost
since the early 1970s when he was in high school and Mr. Vetter was a
newly ordained pastor assigned to work with youth at Mr. Yost's
church, according to the Lincoln Journal Star. <MORE>
