Group Description

TwinRIP is an old command line program for extracting the recorded programmes from certain hard disk based video recorders by connecting the hard disk to a PC running Windows 2000/XP, or Linux. TwinRIP is now over 2 years old and has been superseded by TDU.

TDU (Twin Drive Utility) is a Windows 2000/XP/Vista based program that does a similar job to TwinRIP but with more 'bells and whistles'.

The principal hardware that TDU and TwinRIP targets is the Pace Twin Recorder (hence the software's name). It has been found to work with other recorders that use the STAVFS filesystem. There has been particular success with the OpenTel 4200 device, and TwinRIP has limited success with certain early Humax recorders. It can't extract from later 8000+ series Humax units due to encrypted header blocks. The 9200 series Humax doesn't use the STAVFS format but an extractor for this model is in the Files section.

TDU was originally designed for Twin Drive interrogation and later as a GUI front end for TwinRIP. It now has it's own extraction engine for Pace Twin, Opentel and Radix PVRs.

This forum discusses the software bugs and usage of both programs.

There are also a number of utility programs that might be useful to you if you're trying to get MPEG data from a new source, or understand the structure of some data you may have found.

QUICKSTART: The software is under the Files section.
