      * According to Turkish daily Taraf, any US action in Syria puts three countries at high risk: Turkey Jordan and Israel.????????????
      ???????????? The daily claims that terror attacks can start in Turkey.????????????
      ???????????? A day earlier Taraf quoted the yrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Muallem as saying. "If balances in Turkey were upset by what happened in Egypt, they will plunge further due to what is going on in Syria."

      * On Monday, Turkish daily Milliyet quoted the Turkish Foreign Affairs minister as saying "We would participate in a coalition" on a military engagement in Syria.????????????
      ???????????? According to the daily's story, Mr. Davutoglu had referred to massacres in Bosnia and said that the Assad regime used more severe methods. He said the international community must take even tougher measures on Syria than ones it had deployed in the Bosnian war.????????????
      ???????????? In related news, the Turkish daily Vatan claimed that any operation against Syria would be directed by the NATO base in Izmir, Turkey.????????????
      ???????????? Meanwhile, the daily Hurriyet reported that Mr. Davutoglu had talked over the phone with his American counterpart John Kerry twice. Hurriyet also referred to Mr. Davutoglu's remarks from an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, and quoted him as saying "a coalition of hearts will stop Assad, as in the case of the Srebrenica massacre."

      * According to the Hurriyet Daily News, American linguist, philosopher and political activist Noam Chomsky has accused Turkish daily Yeni Safak of publishing an interview with himself containing fabricated remarks that he did not state about recent incidents in Egypt.????????????
      ???????????? To back up his claims, Chomsky published the original version of the questions and answers of the email interview with the reporter, Burcu Bulut. Yeni Safak's published interview and the philosopher's website version are quite different in content.????????????

      * Speaking of Egypt, the Egyptian Ministry for Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the latest statements by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he criticized Al-Azhar's Grand Imam, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Ahram Arabic website reported.????????????
      ???????????? The ministry, in a statement, announced that Erdogan's views are an insult, not only to Egypt, but all Muslims worldwide.????????????
      ???????????? In a speech at the University Development Foundation on Sunday in Rize province, Erdogan reportedly condemned what he described as a "military coup" in Egypt, stating that he was "disappointed" to see the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Al-Tayeb, side with the "coup" leaders.????????????
      ???????????? In related news, According to Deutsche Welle, Turkey risks endangering ties with the international community because of its support for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.????????????
      ???????????? But an Erdogan aide says Ankara faces not isolation but a "precious loneliness."????????????

Its newly-adopted philosophy, 'zero problems with neighbors,' won praise both at home and abroad as Ankara reengaged with the Middle East following a half century of estrangement," Mr. Zalewski wrote.????????????

"Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has now burned his bridges with the military regime in Egypt, squabbled with Gulf monarchies for refusing to stand by deposed Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy, and started a war of words with Israel for having a hand in the coup that removed Morsy from power," he added.????????????

      * According to the Business Recorder, Turkey's trade deficit widened more than 20 percent year-on-year in July, a bigger increase than expected, highlighting its vulnerability to volatile capital inflows.????????????
      ???????????? The trade gap widened to $9.806 billion from $8.005 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to data from the Turkish statistics institute, exceeding a forecast deficit of $8.2 billion in a Reuters poll.????????????

      * According to the Anatolia News Agency, excavations in Istanbul's only Byzantine fort, Yoros, will come to a close at the end of this month. During excavations this year some 80 artifacts have been unearthed.????????????
      ???????????? The Yoros Fort is located in the city's Anadolukavagi neighborhood and its date of construction is not known exactly. It has been hosting excavation teams of the Istanbul University since 2010. The excavation team, made up of archaeologists, art historians, faculty members, university students and veterinaries, has so far revealed numerous artifacts.????????????
      ???????????? Among this year's artifacts are a bronze pestle, mazarine, tile, pellet, measuring glass, Venetian glasses, perfume bottles, coins, Tophane pipe bowls and many others. The oldest of these artifacts dates back to the Beyazit I period and the newest one is from the first years of the Republic. Also, for the first time this year, women's pipe bowls and Greek coins were found.

      * Iranian director Asghar Farhadi will be the honorary guest of the 50th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, reports the Hurriyet Daily News. The festival will start on Oct. 4 and will continue until Oct. 11.????????????
      ???????????? Farhadi received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film for the film "Separation."????????????
      ???????????? Farhadi will participate in a screening of "Le Pass????????????," his new film, which won the jury award at the Cannes film festival in the category of best leading actress for Berenice Bejo in her role.


      * The Akbank Short Film Festival has announced a call for national and international applications for its non-competition participation section, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.????????????
      ???????????? The applications to participate in the festival are unspecified with regard to subject, length and category restrictions. In addition to documentaries and works of fiction, animation and experimental films will be evaluated in this section.????????????
      ???????????? The deadline to apply to the non-competition part of the festival is Nov. 1, 2013. The labels "For cultural use only" and "Without commercial value" should be added to packages sent from abroad, and the shipping fee should be pre-paid by the sender.????????????
      ???????????? Directors can reach the non-competition participation application form and terms from the links on the website.

      * According to the Anatolia News Agency, the Film Festival Turco di Roma (Rome Turkish Film Festival) will start on Sept. 26 and continue until Sept. 29 in the Italian capital this year.????????????
      ???????????? A total of 15 Turkish films will be screened over the three days of the festival, which aims to focus on promoting contemporary Turkish cinema in Italy.????????????
      ???????????? According to the written statement sent by the organization committee, Yilmaz Guney is the honorary award winner at this year's festival. The wife of Guney, Fatos Guney, will be there to pick up the award. Italian-based Turkish auteur Ferzan Ozpetek is the honorary president of this year's festival, which will be held under the motto "'Mamma li Turchi' Arrivano con i film."????????????
      ???????????? This year, the festival consists of four sections, titled, "In memory," "Movies are coming," "What do Turks laugh at?" and "Short films." The movies of Guney will be screened in the "In memory" section.????????????
      ???????????? Ugur Yucel's new film "Cold" will open the festival.????????????
      ???????????? Launched in 2011 as a joint effort by the Turkish Embassy in Rome, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkish Ministry for European Union Affairs, the festival has presented many critically acclaimed films, including Zeki Demirkubuz's "Underground", a loose adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's novel "Notes from Underground," and Fatih Akin's documentary "Polluting Paradise". In 2012, the festival hosted renowned director Nuri Bilge Ceylan as the guest of honor, featuring a selection of his films.

      * Filmekimi, an October fixture on Istanbul's cinema calendar, has announced its main eight movies, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.????????????
      ???????????? The festival will start on Sept. 28 and continue to Oct. 6, before spreading to other Turkish cities such as Bursa, Izmir, Trabzon, Ankara, Gaziantep, Batman and Diyarbakir.????????????
      ???????????? Almost 40 movies, many of which premiered or won awards at international events like the Berlin, Cannes, Venice and Toronto film festivals, will be screened. The event, now in its 12th year, is being organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV). In earlier years the festival reached 47,000 people, and the aim this year is to reach even more people in other cities. Tickets will available on Sept. 21.????????????

      * According to the Hurriyet Daily News, Lisa Stansfield, a soul and pop diva from the 1990s, will perform at the Harbiye Open Air Theater on Sept. 18. Stansfield will perform songs from her new album, as well as classics.????????????

      * Swedish rock band Europe is coming to Turkey for a concert in Istanbul next month. The band will perform on Sept. 28 at Life Park, reports the Hurriyet Daily News.????????????
      ???????????? The legendary group, which launched many famous hits of rock history such as a the "The Final Countdown", "Carrie" and "Superstitious" have performed concerts all around the world since their reunion in 2003.

      * Turkey's State Theaters???????????? will welcome the new season with 150 works, most of which will be staged for the first time, reports the Anatolia News Agency. The goal of the organization is to draw people of every age to theaters.????????????
      ???????????? Speaking about the 2013-2014 season, General Director Mustafa Kurt said that State Theaters would open the curtain in 58 theaters in 23 cities.????????????
      ???????????? He said that they would draw everyone to theaters with many national works from Yasar Kemal to Necip Fazil and from Resat Nuri Guntekin to Orhan Kemal, adding that they would set more place for national works in the new season.????????????

      * The strains of the masters of classical music like Strauss and Mozart will pervade southern Turkish town of Side starting next week as the Side International Culture and Art Festival returns for the 13th year with the Vienna Classical Music Orchestra and Ballet, according to the Hurriyet Daily News.????????????
      ???????????? The festival will kick off at the ancient theater of Side with a performance from the world-class Austrian orchestra, who is set to play works by Josef Strauss, Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.????????????
      ???????????? The festival, which was launched in 2000 by Side Municipality and its mayor, Abdulkadir Ucar, has been hailed as one of the most prestigious festivals in the world. The event is a member of the Europe Festivals Association.????????????

      ???????????? Over the past 30 years he has exhibited extensively with solo shows at venues including the Kunsthalle Basel, the Tate, the Hayward Gallery, the Reina Sofia in Madrid, the CAPC in Bordeaux, the Haus der Kunst in Munich, the MAK in Vienna, and the Deutsche Guggenheim.
