Group Description

The great American mezzo-soprano Tatiana Troyanos lived from September 12, 1938, to August 21, 1993. "She was possessed of a rare combination of passion, commitment, emotional intensity, and fragility, enabling her to reach deeply into every role she performed" (Metropolitan Opera).

The Tatiana Troyanos Archives website lives on, in archived form. Please post any news and thoughts about Troyanos in this group.

Der Rosenkavalier and Don Carlo have come to DVD, joining Cavalleria Rusticana, Les Troyens, Tannhäuser, Ariadne auf Naxos, Capriccio, La Clemenza di Tito, Norma and the legendary Devils of Loudun.

Giulio Cesare with Troyanos as Cleopatra is on CD. Ira Siff applauded I Capuleti e i Montecchi : "I cannot imagine Giulietta [Beverly Sills] finding a more ideal Romeo than Tatiana Troyanos."

A 1985 interview by Bruce Duffie is in print for the first time. Cori Ellison's Troyanos obituary and Eric Myers' informative "Fever Pitch" are on Opera News' site.

"She has a highly developed musical imagination," wrote Richard Dyer in the Boston Globe, "the kind that can show you new things in music you've known all your life."
