Group Description

Trimethylaminuria TMAU, formerly called Fish Odor Syndrome, is a metabolic disorder where the body lacks enough enzyme to breakdown trimethylamine. This insufficient enzyme causes trimethylamine to accumulate in the body and then released in sweat, urine and breath. Some individuals give off a fishy, burning, fecal or other odd body odor, but it is NOT always fishy.

The foundation of TMAU treatment has been limiting the intake of Choline, L-Carnitine, Tyramine and Indole vegetables . Taking the supplements of (Riboflavin) B2, Folic Acid with the use of a low PH soap have been demonstrated in research studies to help reduce the odor. Additional measures have been found to be beneficial by individuals so stop in to share your experience.

**Disclaimer: It is not the intention of this site to provide medical advice but rather to provide users with an understanding of TMAU and support. For medical advice we urge you to consult with a qualified physician.
