Group Description

The Translators Red Alert & Hotline mailing list has been set up to facilitate warning freelance translators and interpreters of tricksters and crooks in the translation arena. We hope to integrate a hotline in which volunteers will help those who have been cheated or tricked to make contact with others who have been cheated by the same person. We hope that this will lead to prosecution by either the police, Interpol or by means of a class action suit.
This forum is intended to complement the payment practices lists such as the TCR list owned and moderated by Laura Hastings, the Payment Practices list owned and moderated by Ted Wozniak, the Blue Board on Henry Dotterer’s ProZ and the equivalents hosted by GoTranslators, Translators Café, etc. Please subscribe to at least one of the payment practices lists as the Translators Red Alert & Hotline list cannot, and will not, attempt to replace the excellent service to the translators’ community that these lists and virtual notice boards offer.
The list will be fully moderated. There will be no queries about clients, but rather reports about those who have a history of exploiting the goodwill and gullibility of translators and interpreters worldwide. Reports must be objectively worded and substantiated by documentation. Should you read a report about someone who has tricked, cheated or not paid a colleague, and you have suffered a similar experience, please post a report outlining your personal experience, as this will help us to help you form a group of people to take action against the perpetrator.
We hope enough people will be in touch with us, with concrete information about the worst offenders, to make it viable to report them to Interpol or the police in the area of their residence or place of work. Alternatively, we hope that enough evidence can be gathered to enable those who have been cheated to launch a class action suit against offenders.
List rules will be posted shortly.
