Hurricane Frances and the number 13
- Is the number 13 unlucky? I didnt used to think so.
As trackchaser report readers know, I am just 13
tracks short of reaching the elusive 100 tracks in one
season. Carol and I have two tracks scheduled for
this Saturday in Florida.
Theres just one problem. Theyre expecting a
category 4 (or higher) hurricane to hit Florida! That
would be Hurricane Frances. No one knows exactly if,
when and where the hurricane will hit. We were
planning to stay for one night at my step-fathers in
Auburndale, Florida. I just received a call from him
and he is going to evacuate the area and head
somewhere north. Since Florida just had a major
hurricane hit (Charlie) a couple of weeks ago,
everyones sense of concern is elevated.
Actually, the main purpose of our trip to Florida is
not the races. We have a 15 day cruise scheduled to
depart Miami on Sunday afternoon with Carnival
Cruises. Weve had this trip planned for months and
it would be a shame to see it cancelled. Carnival has
already cancelled a cruise scheduled to depart on
We leave for Florida on Friday. That SHOULD be a day
or so before the storm hits land anywhere. If the
cruise company doesnt cancel our trip before Friday
morning at 8 a.m., were heading to the Sunshine
state. We may be the only folks heading into Florida
while everyone else is heading out!
Now that I know we wont be staying with my
step-father, it frees up where we might go racing if
there is any racing to see at all. I dont have that
many available weekends to make up for cancelled
races. The next few days might be very exciting for
us. Weve never been part of a hurricane before,
although we nearly were in Hawaii a few years ago.
Ill keep all my trackchasing friends posted on what
