More from Roger Ferrell. He went through his extensive race logs to see how many different dates in the year he has seen any races, not just new tracks. Roger reported he has seen racing on 335 days out of 366. His tally of dates with new tracks was 267. He is missing just six dates in January, eight in February, one in March, five in November, and eleven in December.

      Fascinating stuff.

      TrackChasers:

Last week I noted that our group has seen a race on 363 or the 366 days of the
year. I asked if any individual was interested in a personal breakdown of their
tracks by month and tracks by date. After a pause to add Dave Garrison's 290
tracks to the database, I resumed the research for those that indicated an
interest. Below are the results. The number after the month is the number of
new tracks reported during that month. The dates in the parenthesis are the
dates that person has not seen a race at a new track. When looking at the group
total, remember that thousands of the reported tracks do not include dates. The
totals are current as of today.

      GROUP TOTAL 363/366

From Bruce's info, you can see that since he and Pat go to Florida in February
every year, they are very solid during Speedweeks, having seen a February race
on every date from February 6-19. You can also tell they have not yet done the
Australia trip, as they have only one date covered between Boxing Day and New
      Year's Eve.

From Allan's stats, you can see that in the first third of the year, he often
stayed home a lot working on editing the new edition of the NSD. But then from
May thru September, he was out hawking the book and has almost every date
covered. Allan just added a new March date for himself just two days ago.

Of note from Pam's data is that the American Speech and Hearing Association
annual conference is always the week before Thanksgiving and Pam always presents
at that conference. Hence, in over 20 years she has no new tracks from November
      15-23.

      December--46 (1-5-15-19-22-23-24-25)

November is the month I have the fewest new tracks. Makes perfect sense. It's
the time between the close of the outdoor tracks in my driving range and before
the start of the indoor and ice race seasons. I have to work Monday-Friday and
have only two personal and no vacation days during the school year. Will asked
if I could get 100 new tracks in every month. Looking at November, the answer
is no. I recently missed another chance at a December 22nd race when we decided
not to go to Birch Run, MI. The race at Black Lake last Sunday was a first-time
March 3 race for me. As of now, I am looking at potential new tracks on October
      26 and November 3.

      ROGER FERRELL 267/366

Roger did not request a data analysis from me. He did his own and sent the
following information. The number represents the number of dates in that month
that he has seen a new track, not the total number of new tracks during that
      month.

      January--17
      February--16
      March--24
      April--16
      May--27
      June--27
      July--30 (Missing only July 16)
      August--31 (All dates covered)
      September--26
      October--22
      November--16
      December--15

      WILL WHITE

Will also did not request an analysis from me. He did his own and reported his
most tracks were in July and the least were in November.

This makes sense for Will, as the factory where he works has a traditional
two-week shutdown at the beginning of July.

If anyone else would like the Tracks by Month / Tracks by Date analysis done,
just let me know. I would be more than happy to run the data for you. However,
it would make little sense to do so unless you have already supplied the date of
your first visit for the vast majority of your tracks.
