      TrackChasers:

Three weeks into what is realistically a nine week season, there has been no racing for any of the three New York ice racing clubs, nor the lower peninsula based Michigan club.

AMEC. They have had Sunday races scheduled for the past three weeks at either Lake Algonquin or Caroga Lake, but have canceled all three weekends so far.

CNYIRA. Haven't heard much of anything from them. In October, they posted a link to download a membership application and urged people to send in their membership. At that time, head guy Tim O'Brien posted on their site message board that:

      1. They were going to look into another land race at the paved SLMP road course.
      2. They were going to seriously pursue racing on Black Lake, a lake they had mentioned many times in the past but have never raced at yet.
      3. Also talked about racing on land at the Black Rock Speedway dirt road course, but also mentioned giving that event to FLIR if they wanted it.

Since then, there has basically been no news whatsoever from CNYIRA. Their website is very outdated, and their message board has more AMEC and FLIR news than CNYIRA news.

FLIR. The new kid on the block in their second year has yet to hold a race. So far they are all talk and no race. They bill themselves as "those crazy folks that will race anything, anywhere, anytime, and anyhow. But slogans are often far from reality. Their plan was to race the second weekend of each winter month, either on a lake somewhere or at Black Rock Speedway. According to their website, they would do everything humanly possible to adhere to that schedule. So far they are zero for two. The most recent race weekend should have been January 12-13. Since there was not enough ice, they should have raced at Black Rock. Three days before the race they checked out the track at Black Rock and pronouced conditions "perfect". And they canceled the event due to the weather forecast that was too nice, and the fact that they don't want to race in the mud. Anything, anywhere, anytime, and anyhow; indeed! So they went to an indoor concession kart track in Syracuse and called it a "point race" for their ice racing group. Give me a break.

MIRA. The Michigan club has put themselves in a hole in the past few years by scheduling all of their races at Chippewa Lake. The opener scheduled for this weekend has been canceled.

There are also a couple of locations for ice racing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They should get their season started at the fairgrounds track (an active dirt track) in Escabana later this afternoon and evening.
