While perusing racetrack websites to find that non-wing sprint and midget doubleheader (of course held on both a half mile dirt and the quarter mile inner oval of a track not yet on my list), I came across this posting regarding a cancellation of events scheduled for October 2. The name of the track really isn't all that important -- the modus operendi is used at quite a few tracks, but the posting is a classic. Thankfully, it was posted on the internet and not on a closed ticket window.
"Well, had to call the races off for October 2nd. Tractor broke down, walk in cooler not cooling, and the Fair is this weekend. So we decided to call it a season. Was great and lots of fun. Trying to get the banquet scheduled. I will post when details are worked out. -- Ken"
Now the tractor and walk-in-cooler failure could have surprised anyone, but I believe they schedule fairs well in advance. I know I'm not planning anything else in my life until the banquet date is finalized. God bless "Ken" and the rest of the speedway promotional team for their efforts to bring racing to this track, but PLEASE send them to the promoters' workshop in Daytona in February. PW
