      Hi All,
Sunday I headed back north to the Dawson County Raceway in Lexington
Nebraska. Tonight was the season opener on the 3/8-mile semi banked
dirt track and had the BST modifieds combined with the IMCA modifieds
as the headline class. The track has sweeping turns and is almost a big
circle with inside berm and outside runoff areas except for the
concrete wall in front of the grandstand. The grandstand has a roof and
several support beams but is quite large with 20 rows. The track has
good lights and good speakers for the excellent announcer. I arrived at
5:30 and the pits were overflowing with several cars pitted in the
spectator parking lot. The warm-ups got underway at 6:15 for 27
modifieds, 22 IMCA stocks and 25 hobby stocks. The track surface almost
looked to have some sand in the clay and was dry and dusty but the wind
was at our back. It turned out the track had some soft spots in the
turns and the dust went away but it became rough. The first race was on
the track at 7:20 and they decided to run all the cars in the 3
features so no semis were needed. David Murray (from 7th), Steve Aitken
(from 2nd) and Vince Leibert (from 8th) won the three modified heats.
The hobby stocks had 4 yellows for cars stopped on the track and a red
when Zach Conas turned on his side during the 15-lap feature. Brandon
Stange won from the pole over a hard charging Kyle Bond who started
22nd and Tony Blessing from 20th. The stock cars took a long time to
run with 8 spins in their 20-lap feature. Dan Walker started 6th and
won over pole sitter Colton Osborn. David Murray drew the pole for the
25-lap modified feature but was offered an additional $400 to win from
the back so he started 25th. The race got a slow start with 4 cars
spinning on the first lap. Then on the third lap two of the better
runners Charley Brown and Jay Steffens got tangled and hit the front
wall with Steffens rolling twice. After another spin Will Brack was
leading when he spun on the 5th lap. By this time Murray was in second
and inherited the lead on the restart, which he never relinquished
through 5 more yellows. After 3 of the top 5 were involved in the lap
12 yellow they decided to go with two more laps to end the feature, as
it was 11:45. Murray collected another of his many feature wins with
Jordan Grabouski second from 12th and Leibert third. Some good racing
but long yellows and a late night for only three classes.
