    John, there is no hard and fast ratio. Often, a yard will build a hull a certain size, then build more hulls with the same width, but different lengths. For

    The boats that are built 35 feet wide will usually operate on locking rivers, so that they might put a barge on each side sometimes and fit through a lock.
