      CALL FOR CHAPTERS
      Submission Deadline: October 15, 2005

"Information and Communication Technologies in Support of the Tourism
      Industry"

A book edited by Wayne Pease, University of Southern Queensland, Australia,
Michelle Rowe, Edith Cowan University, Australia and
Prof. Malcolm Cooper, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan

      Introduction
Tourism is perhaps the leading industry worldwide. In 2004, the tourism
sector represented approximately 10.4 percent of global Gross Domestic
Product and provided approximately 214 million jobs, or 8.1 percent of
global employment, and is continuing to grow. One of the
opportunity/problem areas is in the exchange of information within and
external to the tourism industry. New information technologies are
dramatically transforming spatial relationships within the industry, at
every scale from local to global. This book will examine that process of
transformation. It will be about the changes that modern electronic
communications are supporting, or could support, in the world of tourism,
not only geographically but in terms of culture, economics, marketing,
      social and regional issues.
