The Intercultural Advocacy Institute, The Hispanic Leadership Council, and the Juvenile Welfare Board will be offering a workshop on March 8, 2013 on the state of immigration in our country.  The workshop entitled Immigration Reform Today: Realities, Hopes and Dreams will be a focus on the changing climate of immigration in America and the realities immigrant families and children face on a day to day basis.
John Dubrule, Esq., who is the Director of Litigation and Training at Gulfcoast Legal Services, Inc. and Ramon Carrion, Esq. an Immigration Attorney in private practice, will give an overview of the new federal immigration plan, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the complex legalities immigrants face and there will be discussion on the impact this all has on the children.
Although possessing much strength, immigrant families also confront many challenges. The children in these families often must navigate the difficult process of integration into an unfamiliar society from a position of social disadvantage with limited language skills and minimal family and institutional support. Please join us as this complex issue is broken down and discussed in depth.
      • To open a discussion about the obstacles immigrant families face on a day to day basis
      • To present legal options and realities to help service providers better guide immigrant families
      • To discuss the impact the complexities of immigration is having on the children's social and emotional well being
