"... For though Sauron had passed, the hatreds and evils that he bred had not died, and the King of the West had many enemies to subdue before the White Tree could grow in peace."
-- The Lord of the Ring, Appendix A, II The House of Eorl.

This passage has given rise to a favorite obsession of mine, which I have held for 35 years. What were those evils? Who were those enemies? And on what far fields of Rhun and the South was the thunder of the cavalry of the Mark heard in the first years of the 4th age (SR 1420-1450)? What were the continuing adventures of the Companions of the Ring and their associates and descendents, and how can these be used for role-playing and miniature wargaming purposes and fan fiction?

I have been exploring these and similar questions for many years and would like to share my speculations and discuss ideas regarding Middle-earth in general and the progress of the 4th Age specifically, with like-minded fans and Tolkien enthusiasts.

I'd like to keep specific topics in individual threads for convenience (start a new thread when you start or respond to a new topic). Normal rules of decourum and netiquette apply please.
