      Precisely. I'd never say that the Jews were/are to blame; at least not
      totally; there's plenty of blame to go around, though.

      trying to say something like "The Jews are to blame" or some such thing.
      My
      assumption is that you are suggesting a metaphysical answer to his query
      which is something only he could answer for himself.
