Seems a good ldea to start like it has and covering different periods I presume as it goes along. Be interesting to see how they decide to handle it after this 12 issue arc.

Story was okay so far, but too soon to tell for sure. I can certainly say that the best thing in the issue was John's prose saga at the end, three pages that will run for a year. The rest of the comic was just red blood and gore all the way. It seemed like a continuation of the Dark Horse style. Except for the first two pages, which are a collage of old Marvel scenes.

It is not marked, but I THINK I picked the Hildebrandt cover. They did not include a page showing the various covers.

The replica True Believers copy of Conan #1 (1970) was fabulous. I set it on my coffee table and it evokes true deja vu. I bought a plastic bag for it but not for the new issue!

Great capture if you got the Hildebrandt cover. It is the 1:500 variant and was going for $450 - $500 on eBay.

And reviews have borne that out, with maybe one in ten even mentioning it.  It's all good though, as the publisher's intent was to maintain ties between Conan's pulp prose roots and the the comic book.  With a little luck the story will pull some readers over to the books and REH.

That is just a sad statement on their literacy. The same reason they neglect referring to Howard in their analysis. Ultimately, comic book geeks are no more literate these days than movie reviewers.

I mean, a three page segment? They can't even handle that? That is a very digestible portion. And it made up for the apparent discontinuation of Two Gun Bob.

I did like the fact that the letters page is still the old Hyborian Page. And the issue is sub numbered 276, where they left off in the 90s.

Thanks! I have no idea who that is, but I like the overall composition and the lush background.

But this idea today that variant covers have some kind of significance or importance escapes me. If the story is no good, it's just lipstick on a pig, and if the story is good, the cover may be largely irrelevant, especially if it's not by the interior artist, or does not depict a scene from the issue.

The bottom line for me us that the idea compromises conceptual integrity for the issue as a unity, and as  an aesthetic entity, reduces it to commercial format product.

I wonder if they feature these alternate covers to find out which artist is most popular? See who sells the most copies, then keep score on the best....

I can think of one reason- to cause fans to have to get involved with their local comic book shop, instead of just ordering trades from B&N or someplace.
