Fwd: .......A final attempt to stop the unnecessary killing of badgers in England
- Hi everyone
We only have a few days left until the public consultation on the proposed Badger Cull is closed. If you are against the cull and have not already done so, please complete the online consultation form, write to you local MP and forward this message on to all your contacts.
(If you are for the cull, please ignore this message completely!)

A final attempt to stop the unnecessary killing of badgers in England
Many of us are snowed in at present so if you have not already had the opportunity to respond to the consultation issued by Defra on behalf of the coalition government, maybe you can find time during the next few days. The consultation on Bovine Tuberculosis: The Government's approach to tackling the disease and consultation on a badger control policy, was issued on 15th September 2010 and closes on 8th December 2010 so responses must be received by then to be counted.
There is a relevant article in Farmers Weekly, issued today, and perhaps the following extract will encourage you to write a response if you have not already done so. The link to the complete article is http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/2010/12/02/124579/Act-now-make-your-voice-count-onTB-.htm . The paragraph to which I am referring reads as follows:
"Don't let the well-organised anti-cull lobby dominate because, at the moment, that is exactly what is happening. The badger groups have used the democratic process and the media effectively to get people from all walks of life fired up on this issue. They are swamping the consultation team with piles of well-argued letters demanding no cull of infected badgers."
This may of course be a ploy to make us complacent and to encourage their own supporters. Although there are only a few days left until the consultation closes, we cannot allow ourselves to sit back, thinking that we have done enough. Thanks to the vast amount of work done by yourselves, it does appear that we are making an impact on the consultation process but even now, every single additional response can and will make a difference.
I am attaching to this e-mail the pdf's for the Save our Badgers leaflet and the response template although these can also be found on the Home page of the Badger Trust website www.badgertrust.org.uk and can either be downloaded from there or read on-line. If you have not already done so, please read the advice notes, complete the response form and return it to the TBBC team either electronically or by post. Details of the addresses can be found in the advice notes.
It will also help to make a difference if you would kindly forward this reminder to all your e-mail contacts in the hope that some of them will also reply to the consultation if they have not already done so. If you have friends/neighbours with no computer, please print off a copy of the document and give it to them or alternatively e-mail Admin@... with their name and address and we will send them by return a hard copy of the leaflet although the weather may delay delivery.
So many people and organisations have stepped forward to support Badger Trust in our campaign to save our badgers and we are deeply grateful for everybody's help. I hope that we shall be able to reciprocate in the future.
All Directors and staff at Badger Trust would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas and all the best for the New Year.
Chairman, Badger Trust.
