      Dear ladies and gents,

After a recent fabric-buying excursion, I looked into buying fabric in
bulk online. (Needed 10-ish yards of something to make a cape/cloak,
*knew* it was going to cost me... but I *still* hurt on the cost, even
though I went to a supplier with *excellent*, low prices)

Has anyone had experience with vendors like FabricDirect.com or other
online fabric vendors? How are their prices? Service? Is it really
worth it? I'm looking for things like velour, peachskin, twill, and
other things to make washable costuming. The per-yard savings
difference between buying the bolt online, and buying the yardage at a
storefront seems worth it. I'm just trying to get up the gumption to
make that kind of financial outlay... (Bolt fabric storage is also an
      issue.)

      Thoughts, anyone?

10ish yds usually is not considered bulk. A bolt is 20 to 25 yds, and some places require you to purachase the put-up of 50 to 100 yds minimum. Shopping

around is always the best bet if you have the time. If you are using a constant
supply of the same fabrics, some companies will give you a wholesale account,
and fill your orders as you need it. Rosebrand and Dharma are pretty good
        about this. Good Luck!

Actually, I get fabrics from the mills and
manufacturers. Again, it is somewhat seasonal but not
necessarily. I can usually get just about any fabric
and resell it for $2-3 a yard if you buy at least 5
yards. Just ask for what you want. I would appreciate
the support. I do not have a website yet, but I'm
          working on it.
          Thanks,

and for that price... yummy! LOL I'll be going up
there in 2 weeks. This has been so much fun for me. It
started out to be for my own private stash... and has
sort of grown from there. I've rented a small
warehouse. Still looking for a shop. Might actually
find something in Stone Mountain. They've been needing
a costume shop. We'll just add fabrics...
Also, this came at the perfect time. My boss was "let
go" yesterday in the middle of the day. :( The new
head of the division is power crazy and in this only
for himself. Not sure how much longer my department
will last. That's ok. I'll just spend more time on my
                      costumes, website, etc.!

and for that price... yummy! LOL   I'll be going up
there in 2 weeks. This has been so much fun for me.
started out to be for my own private stash... and has
sort of grown from there. I've rented a small It
