I'm thinking about moving to the Boston area, things in beautiful
rural upstate NY are indeed beautiful, but employment is sorely
lacking. I have friends near and around the Worcester area and I've
signed on with OfficeTeam, a temporary employment agency in
Westborough - office day job kind of stuff, I've worked with other
locations they have in Arizona and Maryland and have had pretty good
      luck with them

I'll be doing some Rennfaire and LARP costumes for friends and I'm
looking for some kind of theatre stuff to do to help keep my sanity -
wardrobe, dresser, alterations and the like. Anyone out there have
      any suggestions?

I'm looking at the end of March or April as a launch date.

      Thanks!

Welcome to my neck of the woods, Kathy (even if you are a Yankees fan--maybe we can teach you to like the Patriots?!). Take a look at Worcester Foothills

Hi Susan! Thanks for the Welcome and the website. - I'll be sure to check it out. And I loved "Patriots" - thought Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger did a wonderful job...Oh wait...there's some kind of sports team somewhere with that name...*ducking the flying popcorn...*

Where are you btw - I'm hoping to end up in Dudley, just down 395.

                Hey Kathy-
I live in VT and can relate to the lack of employment, especially as a costume designer.
What I've done is split my time, by day I'm a fitting spec diva for an outdoors apparel
company. Think snowboards. And by night I design costumes (usually four shows a year)
for various theatre groups. The technical design/fit specialist keeps my patterning, fitting
and organizational skills in check and the designing keeps my creative soul alive. That
said there are a some great little theatres in Boston. The Dorset Theatre Festival Dorset
VT puts out a directory (updated yearly) of all the theatres in New England. (http://
                dorsettheatrefestival.com/)

There's also a handful of apparel manufacturers left in BOSTON who need people who
know their way around a garment.

                Good Luck!

I should be "up there" (in a place yet to be determined) by the end of March. If any of you are local to "wherever I end up" please feel free to drop by for a cup of tea!
