Sprung steel is great if you use a fabric base, china silk pref. Plastic tubing used in kite-making makes great vertical and horizontal internal support.

      Subject: [TheCostumersManifesto] Angels Wings Query

I am trying to make angels wings that will be about 7 feet tall (tall
angel). They will be feathered wings. My problem is the frame. If I
make it out of wire, the gage I need to support the weight of the
feathers and fabric is pretty heavy and gets bent out of shape a lot.
If I make the frame out of tubing (like you make fishing poles out
of) it will not hold its shape. Does anyone have any ideas that will
      be light but durable?
