Lorraine Merecka 1929-2001
Lorraine Berckenhoff Merecka, of Floresville, passed away Sunday,
March 11, 2001, at the age of 71 years, 5 months, and 2 days.
She was born in Shiner on Oct. 9, 1929, to Bertha Jahn and Edmond
Berckenhoff. She attended Yorktown schools and had lived in
Floresville since 1942. On Feb. 6, 1951, in the Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Floresville, she married Victor W. Merecka. Mrs. Merecka
was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the VFW Ladies
Auxiliary. She was a housewife and also worked at a local coin-
operated laundry for many years.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 12, in the Vinyard
Funeral Home in Floresville. A Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 2
p.m., in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Victor Carrillo
officiated. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Vaughn Merecka, Leroy Talamantez, Glen Merecka,
Albert Chilek, Tommy Chilek, and Marty Chilek.
She is survived by her husband, Victor M. Merecka of Floresville;
sons Ronald Merecka and wife Jo Ann of Floresville, and Robert
Merecka and wife Donna of Floresville; daughter Vickie Koehler and
husband Randy of Floresville; grandchildren Nathan Merecka and fiance
Christy Smith, Amber Koehler and Larissa Koehler, and Ryan Merecka;
sister Lydia Merecka of Floresville; and numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
