      Ben A. Brem, 83, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2001, in Marlin.  Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday May 3 at Bellmead Funeral Home.  Family visitation will be 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. after the Rosary.  Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday May 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Timothy Vavarek as celebrant.  Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
       
      Mr. Brem was born January 27, 1918, in Westphalia, Texas, to Alfred and Mary Heese Brem. He was reared and educated in the Tours community and proudly served his country in the Army during WWII from 1940 to 1945.   He was skilled in field artillery and infantry and went all through the European theater receiving seven bronze stars, three purple hearts, an excellent markmanship medal and a good conduct medal.  Mr. Brem marched under the leadership of General George Patton.
       
      After the war, he established Brem's Used Cars on Elm Street in Waco where he worked until his retirement.  Mr. Brem married Lorraine Mary Toole in 1949 and she precede him in death in 1974; he was also preceded in death by five brothers, John, Eddie, Alfred, Hugo and Joe Brem; three sisters, Mary Knoff, Della Miller and Gertrude Veselka; and two nephews Oscar & Elmer Brem.
       
      He is survived by numerous other nieces and nephews and a long-time friend, Helen Skerik.
       
      Pallbearers will be Edward, Marvin, Ollie and Joe Brem Jr.  Honorary pallbearers will be John Snyder, Sr., Herbert Brem, Emil Veselka, John Brem, Jimmy and Billy Davis, Dr. Fred Brem and Waco Used Car Dealers.
