Leon Leroy Hruska, 99, of Plano, died Sunday, August 25, 2013. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. September 28, at Central United Methodist Church, 5740 Bagby, in Waco, Texas, with the Rev. Keith Barbee officiating.
Leon was born in Granger, Texas, on January 11, 1914, to John F. and Frances Elizabeth Hruska. He was the ninth of 10 children. After graduating from high school in 1931, he was hired by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and assigned a territory in Nacogdoches where he met Willene McIver. They married in 1939.
Leon managed a wholesale grocery company in Corsicana in 1943, developed a territory for Tom Huston Peanut Company in Shreveport, Louisiana, for seven years and in 1954 was hired by Adams Extract Company, Austin, to develop a 20-county territory in Waco. He retired from Adams after 30 years in 1984.
Leon sang in the church choir, was active in Habitat for Humanity and Senior Kiwanis, and sang at Ridgecrest Retirement Center every Thursday. He loved to build things, go fishing and being with his family.
Leon was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Willene.
He is survived by daughter, Marilene Hruska and husband, Keith Barbee, of Plano; son, Mac Hruska and wife, Gail, of Austin; son, Jan Hruska and wife, Mary, of Gulf Breeze, Florida; granddaughters Jennifer Smeller, Karen Emberley and Adaire Plesnarski; grandsons, Brad and Andy Hruska and Cary Cocke; great-grandsons, Cal, Conner and Curran Smeller and Anthony Emberley; and great-granddaughter, Katie Emberley.
