Libbye Josephine Pechal Stefka
Libbye Josephine Pechal Stefka was born July 5, 1918, to Joseph and Antonia Pechal in Oenaville, Texas. She departed this life on September 10, 2013.
By many who loved her she was known as Aunt Libbye, Mercie, or Merse. Libbye and William "Bill" Stefka were married for 42 years. Following his death in 1983, she moved to New Braunfels. Before Bill's death the couple ran Avenue B Grocery in Austin, Texas, for 33 years. They were affectionally known as "Ma & Pa" to their customers. After coming to New Braunfels, Libbye enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, attending her church, working with The Doll Ladies, and caring for Christa & Jenna Seibold and Daniel & Jeffrey Orth. Also, we cannot forget her special love for her dogs and cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Carolyn Watson Hampton, her sisters, Pat Chudej and Olga Babovec.
She is survived by her daughter, Laneta Watson and husband, Bob, granddaughter, Juliet Watson Klinedorf and husband John of Canyon Lake, her sisters, Lillian Guenzel and Nellie Saage both of Bartlett, Texas, and special family friends Jo Ann Yates, who was like another daughter to her, and David Kennedy of Spring Branch, Texas, who was like a son to Bill and Libbye. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Benjamin William, Robert Wade, & Katherine Suzanne Hampton and by many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
The family would like to give special thanks to Jo Mortimer, her faithful Stephens Minister.
Pallbearers are Bob Watson, John Klinedorf, Benjamin Hampton, Robert Hampton, Butch Moore, and Thomas Thomson.
