Brian B. Blankenburg, 49, died of cancer July 8, 2009, at his home in Alvin, Texas. He was born in El Campo, Texas, Aug. 20, 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Atkins Blankenburg; two daughters, Leslie Saldana, husband Isaac and their two children, Haley and Micah of Kemah; daughter, Amanda Lynn and husband John Ridgeway of Santa Fe, Texas; parents, Lynn and Helen Dornak Blankenburg, formerly of El Campo; in-laws, Keith and Sandra Atkins, all of Alvin; brother, Kevin Leonard Blankenburg and wife Kelly Blankenburg of Knoxville, Tenn., children, Ryan Blankenburg and fiancee Allyson Darby of Pearland, Jenny Blankenburg of Montgomery, Ala., Kallen and Avery Blankenburg of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Curtis D. Blankenburg and fiancee Carolyn Smithburg of Jacksonville, Ill.; sister, Mary Lynn Anderson and husband David, their sons, David C. and Austin Anderson of Covington, La.; godparents, Clarence and Mary Ann Dornak Ermis and their children, Jeff Ermis and family of Alvin and Dr. Gwen Ermis-Obert and family of Rye, Colo.; uncle, Bennie Dornak and wife Sandra Shaughnessy Dornak and their children, Lisa Bullen, David, Eric, and Matthew Dornak, all of Las Vegas; uncle, Tommy Dornak and wife Joan Hogan Dornak of Flatonia; aunt, Janet Schultz Dornak Higgins and husband Mike Higgins of College Station.
Brian was selected Athlete of the Year in his senior year. At 17 years old, he was fortunate to bat against his neighbor and pitcher, Mr. Nolan Ryan in the Nolan Ryan Baseball Field - Alvin High School.
Brian was an avid fisherman and hunter whose picture was in a popular sports magazine. He worked for Leedo Manufacturing of Sugar Land.
He was buried a few blocks from his country home on July 14, 2009, in the Mustang Community Cemetery in Alvin.
Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo J. and Lillie Baca Dornak of El Campo, Gus Blankenburg of Gonzales, Flora Schilling Blankenburg of Alvin; uncle, 1st Lt. Leonard E. Dornak, U.S. Marine Corp, of El Campo.
