OLVIN JERRY “O.J.” MIKESKA, 74, of Oak Hill, passed away November 15, 2012, at his home.
O.J. was born February 25, 1938, in Nelsonville, Texas. The son of Jerry J. and Edna (Klump) Mikeska, he grew up in the Bellville and Oak Hill communities and attended the Bellville public schools. After graduating from Bellville High School, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. O.J. then served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1962 - 1964.
After his honorable discharge, O.J. moved to North Shore where he was employed as plant manager for Phillips Petroleum. In 1969, he returned to Bellville and opened up his own business, AAA Repair Service, an appliance and air conditioning repair company. He also invented and patented a blade that cut plastic which he manufactured. He later owned and operated The Short Branch in Nelsonville.
O.J. treasured the time he was able to spend with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt and fish. He also liked to cook and barbeque. And while his health permitted, he was a member of the Bellville Volunteer Fire Department.
O.J. is survived by his DAUGHTER AND SON-IN-LAW: Lorri Ann and Todd Morris of Bellville; SON: Mark Allen Mikeska of Florida; EX-WIFE: Beverly Machac of Bellville; GRANDCHILDREN: Masen A. Morris, Hunter L. Morris and Deacon C. Morris, all of Bellville; SISTERS: Valeria Bartay of Bellville and Vernice Luhn and her husband, Robert, also of Bellville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers-in-law: Vernon “Poochie” Bartay and Ralston Krumrey.
