Obit: Edna Rosetta (Marek) Delaune (1918 - 2013)
- FORT WORTH - Edna Rosetta Delaune, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in her 95th year.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
Memorials: Those who wish may make a gift to a hospice of choice. Edna was born June 27, 1918, in Wallis to Joe and Rosie Marek. She was reared along with her four siblings on a farm in the Czechoslovakian community of Orchard. There they were taught the importance of dedication and hard work. Her work ethic never wavered and her hands were never idle. Edna was always busy. Whether it was baking, gardening, sewing or doing housework, being lazy was not an option. As a school girl and young woman, Edna was an outstanding athlete who pitched on softball teams and played volleyball.
Edna married Wybra St. Clair Delaune in 1943. They settled in 1948 in the Oakhurst-Riverside area of Fort Worth, where Edna lived for more than 60 years. She was a stay-at-home mother who dedicated herself to making sure her three children had a wonderful upbringing. Her home was always open to family and friends, if only for an after-school piece of cake or a large holiday gathering; everyone was welcome. In her later years, her greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, catering to their every wish. Edna was a longtime member of Springdale Baptist Church where she often helped in the nursery.
The family wishes to thank Wybra and Elva for the loving care they have provided for Mother while she lived with them during the past six years and Hospice Plus and caregivers for their help during her last few months.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Wybra S. Delaune Sr.; parents; siblings, Sidney Bennett, Leonard Marek, Ray Marek and her twin, Lydia Doughty.
Survivors: Children, Wybra S. Delaune Jr. and wife, Elva, of Millsap, Sydney and Dick Turner of Fort Worth and Cleburne, Olivia McCartney and husband, Charlie, of North Richland Hills; grandchildren, Crystal Delaune, Kyle Delaune, Tyler Monahan, Whitney Moss, Maren Whitehead, Kevin McCartney and Dr. Colin McCartney; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
