Carrie Mae Hudgins, age 74, of Hungerford, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Methodist Hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Magnet on Nov. 9, 1938, a daughter of the late George Willrich and Elenora Horelica Willrich.
Carrie was reared in the Wharton area and graduated from Wharton High School. She attended Incarnate Word University obtaining her bachelor’s degree. She was married to Leslie “Bubba” Hudgins on Nov. 11, 1960, in Wharton. Carrie was a dedicated employee of J.D. Hudgins, Inc. as a bookkeeper for more than 53 years. She was a longtime resident of Hungerford and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford. Carrie enjoyed her grandkids, cooking and her flowers. She was very devout attendee of her church. Carrie also rarely missed a meeting of her Bridge Club on Wednesdays.
In addition to her parents her brother, George Willrich, and sister, Evelyn Janik, preceded her in death.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church and a Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 20, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery in Hungerford.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe, Bill, Bob and Tom Hudgins.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie “Bubba” Hudgins; sons, Steven Hudgins and fiancée, Lisa Shoppa, of Hungerford and Rex Hudgins and wife, Suzie, of East Bernard; daughter, Amy Polak of East Bernard; grandchildren, Taylor Hudgins, Collin Hudgins, Andrew Hudgins, Hunter Shoppa, Amanda Polak, Kristin Polak, Brooke Polak, Abby Hudgins, Caylee Hudgins and sister, Shirley Willrich. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to St. John’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 121, Hungerford, TX 77448; or Memorial Honor Program of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105-1905. Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
