obit: Manuel J. Plocheck
A funeral mass for Manuel J. Plocheck, 84, Van was held at St. Mary’s in Plantersville on June 5 at 10:30 a.m., with burial in the church cemetery. A reception followed at the church hall.
Mr. Plocheck passed away June 2, 2009 in Tyler.
He was born to John and Margaret (Wolf) Plocheck on April 27, 1925, in Plantersville the fifth of nine children. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Pacific in World War II and in the occupation of Japan, immediately afterward.
For 40 years he worked in the oil fields of Texas including Cedar Bayou, North Houston, Damon, Crockett and Van. While living and working in Damon he was elected to the local school board and was active in the Catholic Church there.
He is preceded in death by his wife Ann Herzog Plocheck in 1992, and by his brother and five sisters.
Survivors include sons, Bob Plocheck, Denton, Tommy Plocheck and wife Marla, Van, and Johnny Plocheck, Houston; daughters, Joyce Hurta and husband Gary, Kathy Roll and husband Royce, and Dianne Friedel and husband George, all of Houston; grandchildren, Cheryl Stein, Amy Krueger, Kaitlyn Friedel, Emily Plocheck, Leigh Utakrit, and Amy Roll all of Houston, Sara Plocheck, Van, and Adam Plocheck, Austin; three great-grandchildren; his brother Willie of Crosby and sister Lena Zawacki of Houston.
