Funeral Mass for Justina Hanzelka Jochec, 86, of East Bernard, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Interment followed at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard. Rev. Don Ruppert officiated the services.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at Davis Chapel in East Bernard.
Mrs. Jochec was born on Feb. 25, 1920, in Smithville, to John and Sophia Polasek Hanzelka. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister who loved to work in her garden and canning. Mrs. Jochec was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She passed away on Feb. 19, 2007, in Wharton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jochec; her parents, John and Sophia Hanzelka; her brothers, John and Julius Hanzelka; and her sisters, Annie Karasek and Sophie Jochec.
She is survived by daughters, Julia Borecky and husband, Zigmund, of East Bernard and Joan Grigar of Rosenberg; son, Eugene Jochec and wife, Evon, of Ganado; grandchildren, Debbie Murrile of Sugar Land and Marion Borecky and wife, Melissa, of Rosenberg, Jennifer Michalec and husband, Mark, of Needville, Joyce Zaruba and husband, Tim, of Needville, Dwayne Grigar and wife, Sharon, of Rosenberg, Laura Zimmermann and husband, Vernon, of Richmond, Glenda McLain and husband, Roy, of Ganado, and Stacy Jochec of Edna; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Agnes Polasek of East Bernard, Helen Olsen of East Bernard and Louise Kovar of Wallis; bother, Victor Hanzelka of East Bernard; and numerous other family members and many friends.
Pallbearers are Marion Borecky, Dwayne Grigar, Tim Zaruba, Mark Michalec, Taylor Borecky and Larry Tomanek.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.
