      HALLETTSVILLE – John W. Matula, 64, of Rt. 4 in Hallettsville, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday at his home.

       

      Born in Lavaca County on May 27, 1915, he married Rosie Recek on Nov. 5, 1941.  Mr. Matula was a member of Sacred heart Catholic Church, K.J.T. and the American Legion, was a veteran of World War II, and was a retired machinist.

       

      The body will lie in state at Kubena Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Saturday.  Rosaries will be recited by the parish Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Kubena Funeral Home, and Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church.  Funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Monsignor Stanley Petru officiating.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home.

       

      He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosie Matula of Hallettsville; five sisters, Mrs. George Ulcak, Mrs. Charlie Novosad and Mrs. Ed Kwdzoira, all of Houston, Mrs. Bessie Kouba of Hallettsville and Mrs. Calvin Hohensee of Wharton; and a brother, Leon Matula of Houston.
