      JAMES JOHN MAREK

       

      GANADO - James John Marek., of Ganado, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the age of 66. He was born October 26, 1946, in Ganado, Texas.

       

      James served in the U. S. Army receiving the following honors: National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze service stars, Sharpshooter (Rifle), Purple Heart. He was an operator at DuPont and retired after many years of service. James also contributed his time and service to the VFW Post #2438 (Bay City), Knights of Columbus #3204 (Ganado), Order of the Purple Heart (Victoria), Disabled American Veterans (Victoria ), Catholic War Veterans (Victoria ), American Legion Post #346 (Ganado), 1st Air Calvary Division Air Mobile.

       

      He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margaret Kovar Marek; mother Martha Marek West; daughters, Diana Bubela and husband Wayne, Shelly Schmidt and husband, Douglas, Faye Cykala and husband Willie, son, David Marek and wife Kristin, sister; Katy Novak; brother Johnny A. Marek. He is also survived by ten grandchildren Brian, Sarah, Emily, Michael Bubela; Christopher, Kristen, Stephen Schmidt; Ashley Cykala; Jacklynn and Bradley Marek and numerous nieces and nephews.

       

      James is preceded in death by his dad John A. Marek.

       

      Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 5-7 pm Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna,TX . A Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am, Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. Reverend Michael Lyons will be officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado, Texas.

       

      Pallbearers will be David Koester, Tony Dybala, Homer Perez, Mike Van Pelt, Matthew Sulak, John Cieslewicz, Michael Marek and Philip Webernick.

       

      In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans P.O. Box 145550 Cincinnati, OH 45250 or Knights of Columbus #3204 P.O. Box 90 Ganado, TX 77962

       

      Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna 361-782-2221.
