Funeral Services for Bernice (Gaas) Kitkoski of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 26 at Trevino-Smith Funeral Home at 2610 S Texas in Bryan from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with rosary at 6:30. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, at 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX, 77060.
Bernice was born in Frenstat, Texas March 31, 1934 to Frank and Rosalie Marek Gaas and departed this world peacefully on March 24, 2013, just one week before her 79th birthday.
When she was twelve, the family moved to El Maton, Texas where she graduated from Tidehaven High School. Shortly after, she began a 44-year career in banking at Bank of the Southwest in Houston where she lived for most of her life. Beginning as a bookkeeper, she ended her career as a VP of Operations. She married Adam Kitkoski on October 13, 1963. They were married for 43 years when he died in 2006. They were members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church where she was a diligent and dedicated volunteer until she moved to Bryan in 2010.
Two siblings, Loretta Polasek and Frank J. Gaas, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her brother, Bernard; brother and sister in law, Dan and Karen Gaas; sister, Mary Helen Gaas; sister and brother in law, Henrietta and Richard Harrison; also surviving is a multitude of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and family friends who also called her Aunt Bernice. She especially appreciated her longstanding friendships and her new neighbors and friends including the Red Hat Ladies.
Family and her friends will miss her very much but will remember the joy, love, caring and support she brought to all our lives.
