- Hello, Rosemary. Thanks so much for posting my grandfather's obit. Just one thing - he fought in WWI, not WWII. He and his brother Frank fought in France. I have such wonderful memories of him, and his house in Six Mile!Thanks again.Pat Mercincavage

PORT LAVACA – Emmitt Machacek, 83, of Six Mile, died at noon Saturday in a local nursing home.
A retired Alcoa employee, Mr. Machacek was born Dec. 17, 1894, in Snook, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4403.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday at Six Mile Presbyterian Church with the Rev. George Dettman officiating. Graveside services conducted by members of the VFW will be held at Six Mile Cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers, who are VFW members, are Charles Moose, Larry Hamilton, Lupe Chervinka, A.F. Drexler, Claude Bradley and Leroy Jurek. Named as honorary pallbearers are other members of the VFW post.
The family requests that in lieu of the usual remembrances contributions be made to the Six Mile Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Machacek of Port Lavaca; two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Zwerschke of Port Lavaca and Mrs. Marilyn Shaw of Dallas; a brother, Frank Machacek of Port Lavaca; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
