Denise Gail Kopriva, 56, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Monterey Baptist Church. A time of remembrance and fellowship with her family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. She was born to Walter Sr. and Beverly Kopriva on February 15, 1955 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Denise graduated high school from Temple High School in Temple Texas. She moved to Lubbock in 1973 to attend Texas Tech University where she received a Bachelor in Science and a Master's in Education. Denise worked at the Texas Tech Recreation Center as the Assistance Director of Intramurals and as the Director of the summer youth sports camp. After leaving Tech, Denise went to work at Resthaven Funeral Home as a family services counselor. In 1999 Denise went to work for Christian Women's Job Corp eventually becoming the Executive Director until her retirement in 2011. Her work with CWJC was a true passion and she loved helping the women in her program. Denise was also a National Certified trainer for Women's Missionary Union (WMU) which took her to Liberia, Africa twice as well as Puerto Rico. Denise became a member of Monterey Baptist Church in June 1993, where she taught Sunday school to 3yr olds to 3rd grade. She was also the director of VBS for 12 years. Denise loved working with kids and was truly blessed by them. Denise was an animal lover; she and her dog Mattie frequently went to visit the local hospitals and nursing homes.
Denise (known by the people who loved her the most as NeeNee) is survived by her father, Walter Kopriva, Sr.; mother, Beverly Kopriva; brothers, Walter, Jr. Kopriva and wife, DeeAnn and Jeffrey Kopriva; niece, Abbye Kopriva and nephew, Zachary Kopriva and his girlfriend, Lindsey Norvelle. Denise will also be missed by her close friends, Kevin and Julie Bass and their children Jackson, Berkley and Baron Bass.
She was preceded in death by her step mother Christine Kopriva.
