obit: Gilbert J. "Gil" Mokry
Gilbert J. (Gil) Mokry of Thrall passed away April 21, 2013. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Helen Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 6:00 p.m., with Recitation of the Rosary starting at 7:00 p.m., at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel.
Gil was born in 1945 in Temple, Texas to the late Ladd and Mary Mokry. He attended McCollum High school in Austin and after graduation joined the Navy “Seabees” and served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Gil returned to Austin in start work at IBM as a Quality Engineer until he retired in 1993. Having never married he enjoyed stopping for a cold one on his way home and getting together there with his many friends. Gil’s retirement passion was wood working, designing and building many intricate projects which he donated to friends.
Gil is preceded in death by his brothers Rudolph and Edwin, as well as his niece Cynthia Schumman and her infant son Dillan Mokry.
He is survived by four brothers, Victor and wife Barbara Mokry of Georgetown, Eugene and his wife Diane of Henderson Nevada, Emil Mokry of Brenham, and Kenneth and wife Linda Mokry of Woodstock Illinois; three sisters, Patricia (Patsy) and husband Don of Rankin, Texas, Virginia (Ginger) and husband Dan of Georgetown, Texas, and Theresa (Terry) and husband David of Marshall, Texas.
